Mountain Mothers

What does it take to raise a child in a region with few or no roads, pharmacies, doctors, playgrounds, toy stores, or early schooling? These mothers are mountains symbols of strength and resilience as they often bear their children with no medical assistance then and raise them while tending fields, herding animals, maintaining homes and engaging in village culture in the highest habitable elevations. Photographed over five years this collection of images reflects a deep respect for the bond between these mothers and children, as they raise families in the Himalayas.
