🇳🇵New Collection: Meaningful Mountains
May 16, 2025What divides the mundane and the sublime? Meaning. Our perspective on any activity shapes our sense of meaning. Mountains reflect the meanings we project onto them. Do you see dreams, awe, inspiration, transcendence, challenge, wonder, beauty? Do you see intimidation, fear, difficulty, impossibility, discomfort, unknowns? Or do you see the towering power of nature and forces of the earth at work? Or rock, ice, and snow filling the horizon? Are the summits sacred or just substantial? It’s interesting to consider our inner perspective of mountains.
Words convey the meaningful dualities of mountains – they are of the earth and beyond it, they are deadly but necessary for life, they are stable but delicate, they are the same but no two are identical, they are revered but mere rock and ice, they are feared and yet profound sources of joy. Mountains are mapped, roped and summited, yet their mystery remains. Meaningful reflections on mountains offer an invitation to inspiration and transcendence.
This collection of images was photographed in the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges of the Himalayas in Nepal with the Leica SL3 and CL. Part of the journey to make these photographs included a 40mile trek on foot though subtropical jungles to 10,000ft elevation.
