🇺🇸New Collection – Elevated, Alta, Utah
Apr 20, 2024I’m thrilled to bring you an unexpected collection of nearly eighty images of Alta, Utah about the joy of skiing. So much messaging about mountains is superlative – biggest, first, fastest, highest, deepest, farthest – but my interest is in connection, not conquering. My hope is for connection with nature, with others, through body, mind, spirit, together in awe. Whether in the Himalayas, the Alps or here at home in the United States, mountains ask more of us – to respect them, to be careful, to remain aware and in control, to be considerate of others and of the earth. The name Alta is derived from the Latin word for “high” and is an apt description of this tiny skiers-only area, 8-12,00ft in elevation, at the far end of a valley in the Wasatch mountains of Utah. The images were made in two ten-day visits in the winter and spring of 2024. The second visit I was able use the innovative new Leica SL3, the latest iteration in a line of cameras I’ve been using for thirty years (since the film Leicaflex SL2), testing it in all conditions from bright sunshine to blinding blizzards. I hope the photographs express the exhilaration of elevation…
