“Luminous Everest” Opening
Jan 31, 2019The opening “Luminous Everest” connected friends from Kathmandu to Savannah and Charleston and brought my work full circle from the Himalayas back to my alma mater, Savannah College of Art and Design. It was a pleasure to share perspectives of the greatest mountain on earth and homeland of my dear friend Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita with so many. Hugs to Torakichi Akita, Eichan Sherpa Akita, Ally May, Angel Murdock and Sarah Moise Young for traveling in to see the show – your friendships make the world a smaller place.
I hope these photographs convey the mystery, awe and enigmatic experience of traveling to Everest where the summit looms at 29,029ft/8,848m but is often hidden behind nearer, smaller peaks. In many ways the mountain is a mirror, a reflection of ideals, intentions, challenges and strengths. Everest exists in both ice and imagination.
In Light,
Cira
