Hidden Mountains
May 9, 2017I’ve been playing around with the theme of “hidden mountains” on Instagram. Mountains are everywhere, in slanting sun rays, spreading rainstorms, small rocks to iconic volcanic cones, like Mt. Rainier or Fuji. Mountains are also within, what we need to climb, need to explore or hold in sacred mystery. Perhaps I’m thinking so much about mountains as I send prayers to dear Nepali friends, Pasang, Dawa, Maya and their team climbing Kanchenjunga on the far side of the world right now. I cannot “see” Kanchenjunga except in my memories of it, so sense it deeply as an inner/hidden mountain.
Yesterday a storm swept Santa Fe and my camera caught ephemeral mountains of light in the high desert rains. As much as possible, though often without saying, my posts are not just pretty pictures or monochrome poems, I also offer them as hidden and not-so-hidden prayers…
There are mountains hidden in mountains
There are mountains hidden in hiddenness.
This is complete understanding. -Dogen
