Lost in the Right Place
Apr 12, 2017The streets of Kyoto are labyrinthine, somehow eluding maps, apps and directions. After four visits to the city I’ve come to a point of understanding that in Kyoto one is lost until one arrives. That is how it was one morning when we set out through the streets of the historic district, Gion. An hour later we returned to the place we began, deciding to circle back just to reorient ourselves and try again. Just before we got to the massive gates of Kennin-ji Temple we looked up and were astonished to see a rainbow, mid-day. I ran to catch it between the temple eaves and made a few photographs before it faded. We were lost at the right time in the right place.
