Gift of a Lens…
Dec 26, 2016Lenses are not just black tubes of glass, metal and plastic interchangeably or permanently attached to a camera. Metaphorically, lenses are how we see the world. They are our perspective. We can change our perspective, change the lens of our mental-framework just as we can change a lens. In this world of ever more perfect lenses, from smartphones to super zooms I am enjoying the older lenses I started photography with more and more. Many of my lenses belonged to my grandfather and I appreciate “seeing” through “his” eyes. For Christmas I received an unusual lens, a 500mm Telyt-R mirrored telephoto. It is so different, so focus-sensitive, abberation-wonky that it taught me how to see though it, not the other way around. I love learning from different lenses, seeing the world in new, old and always suprising ways.
